Be prepared! Proper gear is a must for your next paddling, hiking or camping adventure but knowing how to use your equipment is just as important. The experienced T.O.W. staff can get you geared up and give you the knowledge you need to make the most of your adventures. Our ACA (American Canoe Association) certified instructors can get you on the water safely and our Rental Program can give you a chance to try before you buy with the best equipment.

Kayak Instruction:

Whether you just want to "give it a try", need to brush up on your technique or are heading for big water, our ACA (American Canoe Association) certified instructors can help boaters at all levels improve and expand their paddling skills.

How good is "The Wave?"
"The Wave" is a simulated river feature in our exclusive indoor play pool at The Outside World. It's an excellent device for teaching beginner and intermediate technique, testing new boats or just having fun without all the preparation one might need for a "river trip".
Check out pictures and footage of our Wave Pool on our Gallery Page. Wave Pool use without instruction is $40 per hour with a maximum of three people. Must be 18 years of age or have parent or guardian present. Helmets, spray skirt and PFD required. Wetsuits available for rent if water feels too cool.

WHITEWATER

After at least one indoor class the next step is get on the river! You'll start your day at 9:00 am at our store on GA 400 in Dawsonville. Once we size you with the correct gear we will go directly to Lake Lanier to work on wet exits, rolls, paddling strokes, and rescue techniques. After working up an appetite paddling we will break for lunch. Next we will travel to the Upper "Hooch" or an equivalent river. Paddling this section will take between 3-4 hours. We will break at surfing rapid for a snack and to practice surfing and rolls. We'll return to the store at around 5:00 pm.

Private All Day Instruction

$250 for 1 or 2 people (call for group rates).

Guarantees private instruction with instructor with no more than two people. Call ahead for scheduling and reservation.

FLATWATER

We are now offering on the water training class for flat water and recreational kayaking. These classes will be taught on the Chestatee River near Dahlonega GA or Lake Lanier at Thompson creek Park in Dawsonville GA. These classes will focus on the basic techniques and skills required to fully enjoy the sport of flat water kayaking. We will be covering proper entry and exit of the boat from the shore and from the water, as well as proper forward, reverse sweep strokes, paddling forward and backward while maintaining a straight line, draw strokes, and edging of the kayak. Our ACA certified Instructor will also explain different techniques for navigating your way down the river, demonstrations on how to catch eddies, execute peel outs, ferries, and other basic water reading and navigation skills will be covered on the river. Other points covered will be things like hazard prevention, such as what to do when encountering deadfalls, small rapids, strainers and other obstacles.

All Day River Class

$150 for 2 people

$200 for 3 to 4 people

Lake Only Class

$50 per hour Up to 3 people, minimum of 2 hours.

Guarantees private instruction with instructor. Class Fees include boat, paddle and pfd rental for the class and transportation.
